The Board of the National Health Performance Authority (NHPA) seeks to appoint a highly strategic, experienced and engaging health sector leader to the position of inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will provide strategic and operational leadership to establish and manage the national Authority which will play an integral part in the Government's health reform agenda. The CEO will oversee the development and production of quarterly Hospital Performance Reports (both public and private hospitals) and Healthy Communities reports (primary health care services) that report against performance indicators contained in the new Performance and Accountability Framework.

Reporting to the Chair and the Board, and building an executive team and staff of approximately 50, the CEO will provide high-level advice and develop key relationships to implement and achieve the business objectives of the NHPA. Through engagement with representatives of State and Territory governments, relevant NGOs, industry and national health leaders, the CEO will ensure that meaningful and accessible performance reports are delivered to the Australian public and represent the NHPA in an expert capacity by providing informed advice on the performance of the Australian health system.

Based in Canberra, the successful CEO will be a proven leader who understands hospital and primary healthcare services, health performance monitoring and the links to Australian health system reform (or other similar initiatives overseas). The right candidate will demonstrate knowledge of public reporting accountability, liaise with and work meaningfully with industry, departments and agencies across State and Territory boundaries, and support and report to Australian Health Ministers.

It is essential that the CEO as proven experience in heading an organisation or entity of similar size and complexity, strong financial acumen and excellent communication and motivational skills. Previous experience establishing an organisation from a greenfield position will be highly regarded.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Relevant tertiary qualifications are required and post-graduate qualifications are desirable.

The National Health Performance Authority (NHPA) is a newly established statutory body formed as a result of the National Health Reform Agreement signed by the Commonwealth and all State and Territory governments. The shared intention is to improve health outcomes and ensure the sustainability of the Australian health system.
